Mixtape Monday

March 22nd, 2010 by Kit

Our man Rich who usually does the top job of being our mixtape selecta – has gone AWOL today and I have been given the unenviable task of filling his rather large musical shoes.  So, here goes.

First up – I dunno why but I was feeling the funk earlier on today and came across this mix from Kid Blast, that has a real block party feel to it

Kid Blast Live @ For No Reason, Preston by Kid Blast on Mixcloud

Second up I thought it was about time that we heard some good old fashioned garage, RnB and rock’n'roll.  So here’s Rumble from Diddy Wah

Towns That Time Forgot

March 22nd, 2010 by Kit

Steve Malpass is photographer we met a while back.  We found out he is now ready to take the plunge into the world of professional photography.  These pictures are from his most recent foray into the many Welsh locales in which he can be found.  We think he might have grown up around some of these places.  You can see more of his work HERE until he gets his website up and running.

Panik has always liked his work and is glad to be able to share some of it with you all, enjoy…

Designing The Absent – Architecture Competition

March 21st, 2010 by Kit

Pieterjan Grandry is a post graduate student in Visual Arts at St. Lucas School of Arts in Antwerp, Belgium and he’s organising this competition as part of a Masters project.  What an inspired idea!

Having seen the cathedral in Antwerp on our travels, we can see why Pieterjan came up with this project; the design goes against the standard design for a religious building of its type i.e. they only built it with one tower than the usual two.  We were intrigued by the project when we first saw it and decided to get in touch with Pieterjan and this is what he said…

“This may sound a bit strange – what has art got to do with architectural competitions? But it’s a way to organise an international brainstorm. To make everyone think about the concept ‘absence’. These international ideas will be put together in a book and in a series of exhibitions. These function again as a source of inspiration.”
Closing date 20th April 2010 – For more info and entry pack go here.

Slutty Fringe – Let’s spend the Night Together

March 18th, 2010 by Kit

The lovely people at Slutty Fringe are doing another night this Saturday, this time at the Big Chill House in Kings Cross – Which seems to be the hot new North London venue gradually prising the mantle away from several East London spots.

Following the success of previous nights by the Slutty Fringe boys (and girl), they will be showcasing talent, Shock Defeat and :Kinema: (who have just been featured by the Guardian) from their in-house label Hot Pockets.

this looks to be another great night in a great place from messrs and ms Slutty Fringe.

See you down there folks!
