Join Index on Censorship, the UK’s leading freedom of expression organisation, and the Belarus Free Theatre at the Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club, for a packed night of cabaret, comedy from Sony award short listed Miriam Elia and The Fix – and all-night mischief. Come and see a mischievous mix of Belarusian funk DJs, live music, cabaret and comedians – all for the exceptionally brave people who dare to speak up, and challenge Belarus’s dictator Lukashenko.

The multi-award winning Belarus Free Theatre, banned in their native Belarus, is renowned for staging underground and uncensored performances that draw attention to the continuing problems faced by Belarusians in “Europe’s last dictatorship”. Their recent performances, including at the Soho Theatre, London and the Under the Radar Festival, New York, have won widespread acclaim. On July 13 the troop performed a rendition of ‘Numbers’ in an event hosted by Index on Censorship and presented by Tom Stoppard at the Free Word Centre in London.

Returning for our next installment of bringing the soundclash format bang up to date, the next CLASH will be held on Friday 16 July.  Eight teams – three tracks per round – one winner.

The registration for new teams is now open, and the July edition of the championship will see us moving into a bigger space for the summer.  No DJ ability is required, just good tune selection.

Born from The Radar Festival which showcased music video makers in 2006,  Radar Music Video is a platform that brings together recording artists who want a video with new and established directors looking to land a gig.  Even before the official launch last week, Radar could already claim credit for having a hand in video commissions for Fat Boy Slim, Tiga, London Elektricity and Crookers.

The way it works is simple and the pricing is heavily skewed to benefit the filmmakers – commissioners pay £19.99 a month to post their briefs and directors pay just £3.99 a month to view and respond to them.  Judging by the testimonials on the site, this business model has been very well received by all parties and we think it’s only a matter of time before it’s more widely adopted, particularly towards the budget end of the creative industries where it would hold wide appeal for those starting to establish their career.  Vulture agents beware – the middle man is being cut out.

As election fever strikes the nation, our MP3 battle returns for another installment on St George’s Day with a new broadcast for the CLASH Party! In keeping with British political tradition, we have claimed an old idea and spun it as our own – the soundclash.

Our manifesto is simple: 8 teams battle head to head, playing their best tunes each round to musically outfox each other. Making progress to the next stage depends on winning the support of the crowd who decide who gets knocked out. The winner takes the prize and the glory!

Musically, any genre goes. The emphasis of the night is for the audience to get involved and decide the outcome. Teams are positively encouraged to bring a secret weapon to the battle and throw down a guilty pleasure or personalised tune.

Once again, Big Rich will be hosting the night with DJs warming the crowd up and playing between the heats. Can current champions The I Team retain their crown?

There’s still a few spaces for new teams so drop us a mail if you fancy stepping up and demonstrating the quality of your tune selection. DJ ability is not required!
