Guerrilla Lighting – Architectural Protest
Panik came across Guerrilla Lighting through a friend of the site. They seem to have been doing what one can only describe as lighting ‘flash mobs’. They have had events in Northern Ireland to Turkey and loads of places in between.
GL bring into public focus the misuse of lighting on certain buildings whilst highlighting those that need some kind of strategic lighting.
Their basic ethos seems to be:
- not all buildings need or deserve to be lit – strategic lighting plans should exist for all cities
- architectural lighting is not a competition – brighter is not better
- poorly designed and installed lighting should be prevented – cities should establish and enforce a minimum standard of quality
- all wasteful use of light should be prevent – leaving the lights on all night in large glazed offices should be a criminal offence
If you visit their site or go to their Facebook group you can see upcoming events and past ones too. Panik gives this a thumbs up – Besides it is surely about time we had some architecture up in here!
Below are some pics taken by the event organisers and participants.
